Does your calligraphy always look the same?
Once you've learnt the basics of modern calligraphy and your work is looking polished you may ask yourself "now what?".
How do you start to add more personality to your calligraphy without feeling overwhelmed and as though you're copying someone else's style?
What you can do now is experiment - learn new styles, stretch yourself and find your own calligraphy style!
I've been in your shoes
In 2019 I believed I'd hit my maximum natural capability. My calligraphy was consistent but it wasn't growing.
What I hadn't realised is that growth becomes slower as you become more experienced and that I couldn't just expect myself to naturally pick up intermediate skills without actively learning them.
Fancy skills like flourishing and blending felt out of my reach though and there were so many style options out there that I wasn't really sure where to start!
Years later and after lots of experimentation I've now found my own sense of calligraphy style (which is continuously improving) and I want to help other calligraphers connect with their own calligraphy style without feeling overwhelmed.

About Calligraphy Gems
Hi, I'm Gemma - the "Gem" part of Calligraphy Gems.
I started learning calligraphy as a child when my Granny encouraged me to try different art forms and calligraphy was the one that stuck - even back then I was obsessed!
As I became a teenager and my Granny was no longer around I lost the connection to my creative side. It wasn't until 2018, when I was gifted a dip pen set for my birthday that I reconnected with my love for this art form.
Apparently encouraging creativity is in my genes because I went onto encourage other people to learn calligraphy. I ended up loving calligraphy so much that I changed my career and switching to teaching calligraphy full time!
